Hello Turkka,
You have received a brand-new ATA cartridge from me. To ensure your Marzocchi fork achieves its full travel after installation and inflation, please follow these steps:
1. Proper filling to balance the chambers:
When filling the fork with air, it is essential to compress the fork approximately 2 cm into its travel during the inflation process. This action helps balance the air pressure between the positive and negative chambers. Skipping this step can cause the fork to “shrink” and not provide full travel.
This issue is widely discussed and explained in various online forums and guides—simply search for “Marzocchi ATA stuckdown” or “fork losing travel.” You will find many reports and technical threads on this exact problem and solution.
2. If the fork won’t fully extend:
If your fork still won't return to full extension, it often indicates a “stuckdown” problem (locked air between the chambers) or possibly an internal seal issue.
Most commonly advised steps:
Completely deflate all air from both air chambers (ATA & PAR).
Remove the fork from your bike.
Carefully open the ATA end cap and, if needed, slightly loosen the internal ATA cartridge foot nut to break the trapped air seal—do this very slowly and cautiously, as residual pressure may be present.
Then reassemble and fill the fork again, this time compressing it 2 cm on inflation.
If the fork still doesn’t function correctly after those steps, please contact me for further technical assistance. Should these measures fail, you may send the cartridge back to me and I’ll provide a replacement.
Best regards,
Olli
